This Postcard Art project is an extension of the their film “Brownstones To Red Dirt” which features children from both schools. An art auction of the original artwork is due to take place based around the same central theme of the film in a fundraising effort to build a school for the orphans in Freetown, Sierra Leone and create a library for the youth at their school in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn.

The theme, “PEN PALS”, is drawn from the connection between the kids, who were thrust together when their schools signed up to participate in an international pen pal program.  Though they knew nothing about each other when they started and have never met face to face, their simple, handwritten letters carry important lessons of compassion, perseverance and hope.  To meet some of the children featured in the film, learn more about the schools and the film itself and see who and what have inspired us all, please visit: www.brownstonestoreddirt.com

An older painting of mine entitled ‘Bolemia’ got a re-working for the men’s toilets. One of my simpler paintings that always seems to provoke a reaction…

Ok, so you may remember me mentioning this upcoming project on my previous blog, if not, here’s a re-cap…

For the majority of last month, I’ve been working alongside music producer ‘Mikey J’ on a really exciting project in conjunction with what I can only describe as an urban dance version of ‘The Pied Piper’ which deputed earlier this year at The Barbican to critical acclaim.

This December It’s back and I’ve been brought on board to recreate 12 illustrations/paintings to feature in a new audio/visual soundtrack that acts as a prequel to the ‘Pied Piper’ entitled ‘Rat’s Lair’. Confused? I was too at first but it’s shaping up to be a really interesting cross media project, and the first time I’ve been involved in producing sequential artwork since my comic ‘No Strings’ back in 2005.

I’m looking forward to sharing what I’ve been up to and can let you now know that I’ll be exhibiting the works to coincide with the opening night of the play on the 11th of December. The work will be on display along with a big mural painted by myself in the main foyer on the Ground floor until December 22nd.
